Nick Morris

Chair - Nicholas Morris has over 33 years’ experience working within NHS Health and Social care services, with ten years’ experience as Executive Director of a large Mental Health and Social care NHS Trust. He had director responsibilities over that time for Clinical and Corporate Governance, Nurse Director, Strategic Planning and Business continuity. Nicholas originally trained as a Psychiatric Nurse, specialising in acute care and then moved into community mental health care within a social services environment. His career then progressed to a range of strategic planning roles in mental health care, at Health Board, Regional and Department of Health level.

Nicholas has specialised in developing stakeholder approaches to service redesign, with a focus on utilising public health data and community needs assessments in order to drive through increased equality of care provision. He has implemented major service re-design that has ensured people receive the care they need earlier in their care journey. He is a passionate advocate for the integration of health and social care services – built around localities that mean access to care is simplified and the outcomes of care are built around the expectations of the public.

Penny Halliday Vice Chair - Penny Halliday worked as a Further Education lecturer for 20 years delivering a variety of full and part time courses to a diverse groups of students. Penny developed a grass roots community group delivering support to kinship carers which became extremely successful and went on to be invited to set up a national service for families. As a result of her work with kinship care Penny won the Sheila Mc Kechnie Award for Health and Social Care, Wigtownshire Woman of the Year and was invited by the then Presiding Officer Alex Fergusson to be his Local Champion . She was elected as a Dumfries and Galloway NHS Non Executive in June 2010 appointed Chair of the Spiritual Care Committee and latterly Chair of the new Person Centered Health and Care Committee. Penny brings to the board a particular interest in Patient Experience as a result of my own experiences as a breast cancer patient. Penny Halliday does not hold any other ministerial appointments.
Lesley Bryce Lesley Bryce has been a Non-Executive Director for NHS Dumfries and Galloway since 2015 and has combined this role with continuing studies, volunteering in the local community and being a carer. She has played a key role in developing the strategy and purpose of the Board and shaping the culture of the organisation. She brings strong engagement skills to build effective partnerships with stakeholders, working together to achieve the best possible outcomes for communities. She provides visible leadership and has championed carers, helping to lead on a supportive culture for carers across the whole region. She has provided a constructive challenge and support on key areas such as reducing health inequalities, clinical and care governance, volunteering and patient and staff experience. She is positively focused on quality improvement and a person centred culture. Lesley is currently the Chair of Staff Care Governance Committee, member of the Integrated Joint Board and Whistleblowing Champion for the Board.
Grace Cardozo Grace Cardozo is an experienced and well respected practitioner working around equality and diversity, in particular with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender young people, adults and older people, both in urban and rural areas. As well as supporting LGBT young people and adults over her career in LGBT Youth Scotland which spans almost 20 years, the wider programme of work that Grace has developed, using the LGBT Charter Mark as a mainstreaming tool across the NHS and other organisations, has helped embed LGBT equality across several local organisations. In 2013, Grace won a National Diversity Award for her work in championing the rights of LGBT peopIe. Grace also brings experience in community engagement and development; staff and project management; policy and interagency work. Grace has recently set up a small business, and commenced work as a self-employed consultant in youth work, community development and equality and diversity.
Melissa Gunn Melissa Gunn was born in Dumfries and has lived, worked and was educated there throughout her life. Since graduating from the University of Paisley (Dumfries Campus), she has worked in various roles covering areas of marketing, business development, finance, project management and regeneration in Dumfries, Cumbria and the Central Belt. She has also taught Business at Further and Higher Education level for over 10 years, working as a Lecturer with the University of the West of Scotland for the past five years. Melissa is also the founding Director of music promotion company Small Town Sounds CIC, and the former Chair of the Board of The Stove Network in Dumfries so brings with her skills in governance, budgeting, networking and management. Melissa is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing. She is passionate about the region and is keen to see it continue to flourish.
Laura Douglas Laura K. Douglas is an enthusiastic and creative Senior Innovation Leader with considerable experience in business, Laura is passionate about understanding people’s needs, and developing new products, services and strategies to meet those needs. Laura developed her Innovation skills over 12 years with a leading global Consumer Goods Company where she led innovation programmes for a number of brands in the beauty business. During her career in consumer goods, Laura became an experienced team leader, creating inspiring vision and goals for those who worked with her, enabling her teams to unleash their passions and skills to deliver great results for the business. Laura was born and raised in Dumfries before leaving to embark upon her University studies and subsequent Innovation Career. Laura returned to Dumfries & Galloway in 2012 where she now keeps herself busy by teaching Innovation Management at a leading Scottish University, working as a freelance Innovation Consultant/Programme Manager, and spending time with her family. Laura Douglas does not hold any other ministerial appointments.
