Welcome to the Cancer Information and Support Centre at Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary.

Who we are

The Cancer Information and Support Centre has been developed as a joint venture between Macmillan Cancer Support, The Big Lottery Fund and NHS Dumfries and Galloway - with generous funding from the people of Dumfries and Galloway.

Our aim is to help ensure that those affected by cancer have access to good quality, comprehensive and appropriate information and support.The Centre offers a range of free information and provides a support service for anyone affected by cancer. You may have cancer yourself, care for someone who has cancer, work as a health professional or simply want to know more about cancer.

Support

 We can direct you to self help and support groups or introduce you to someone who has been through a similar experience to yourself. Psychological support can also be arranged from the centre, use the links on the left for further information on support group or psychological support.

If you just want to talk things over with someone over a cup of coffee you can either drop into the centre during our opening times or phone and arrange an appointment.

Drop-in Service

If you have any concerns about cancer please drop by for a chat. You do not need to make an appointment.

We are open Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm, First Tuesday each month from 7pm to 8.30pm and other times by arrangement.

What we do

The Centre offers free information and provides a support service for anyone affected by cancer.

You may have cancer yourself, care for someone who has cancer, work as a health professional or simply want to know more about cancer.The Centre can provide:

  • A confidential one-to-one counselling and psychological support service,
  • Information on all aspects of living with cancer and treatments
  • Complementary therapies, relaxation tips, stress management, dietary and nutritional advice
  • Links to national and local organisations and support groups

A leaflet titled ‘Transport Information for Patients Travelling to Western General Hospital Edinburgh’ is available from the Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Centre.
