How do I find out more about my condition?

If you have any worries or questions about your own symptoms or condition, contact your GP, or your specialist nurse if you have one. General information on the various conditions is also available:

In addition for these common conditions:

Multiple Sclerosis (MS): The Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Multiple Sclerosis Trust both provide good information.  The Multiple Sclerosis Society also runs courses along with Dumfries and Galloway staff in Dumfries and Galloway. For information on the courses please contact the MS specialist nurse (Telephone number 01387 241272) or the Physical Disability Team (Telephone 01387 244465). In addition every person who is newly diagnosed is now given a folder called ‘My MS Book’. This folder contains useful information and also contains spaces for useful information such as changes to your medicines. If you have been diagnosed some time ago and would like a copy of the ‘MS Book’ please ask the MS specialist nurse who will be pleased to give you one. If you would like any information specifically about your own symptoms or condition, please phone the MS specialist nurse (Telephone 01387 241272) who will be please to advise you. Parkinson’s Disease: The Parkinson’s Disease Society is a good source of information. Any person who is newly diagnosed is now given a folder of information, ‘Personal Health Record’ which also contains spaces to record useful information such as any changes to the timing or dosage of your medication, copies of your consultants letter to your GP etc. If you have been diagnosed some time ago and would like a copy of the ‘Personal Health Record’ please ask the Parkinson’s Disease specialist nurse who will be pleased to give you one. Motor Neurone Disease (MND): The Motor Neurone Disease Society is a good source of information. Any person who is newly diagnosed will be given a folder from the Motor Neurone Disease Society which contains a lot of useful information. The Society also publishes a series of fact sheets which can be added to the folder at any time – just ask your specialist MND nurse for these. If you would like any information specifically about your own symptoms or condition, please phone your specialist nurse (Telephone number 0141 201 2380) or the local nurse who is co-ordinating your care. Epilepsy: Epilepsy Scotland is a good source of general information. If you would like any information specifically about your own symptoms or condition, please contact your GP or practice nurse.
