Occupational Health and Safety Service

The NHS Occupational Health and Safety Services provide professional, confident and impartial advice on the health, safety and welfare of employees at work.

The Service

The specialist service helps to support the overall objectives of the organisation by focusing on improving the health of staff in their work environment.

Occupational Health and Safety staff support the provision of safe and healthy working conditions by expert assessment and advice on the working environment and its potential for impact upon health and well being.

Absolute security and strict adherence to confidentiality of individual medical records and information is maintained at all times.

A Healthier Future at Work

The NHS area wide Occupational Health Service is available to organisations and companies throughout the Dumfries and Galloway Region (via contractual agreement).

The department has over 20 years experience as a specialist provider and was the first NHS Occupational Health Service in the UK to achieve the quality award ISO EN9002. We provide guidance, information and national benchmarking opportunities for many other Occupational Health Service providers throughout the United Kingdom.

We actively encourage user/client feedback and value the comments of managers and staff in continually improving the quality of all our services.

Good Health Is Good Business

There are positive potential benefits to be gained from having access to a comprehensive NHS Occupational Health Service. These include:

  • Improved overall health and fitness at individual and organisational levels.
  • Reduced absenteeism/ill health/staff turnover.
  • Reduced accident/incident figures.
  • Reduction in potential litigation/Organisational risk.
  • Reduced incidence of industrial injuries/occupational ill health.
  • Improved morale/motivation/performance.
  • Enhanced job satisfaction.
  • Reduced stress/burnout.
  • Employees making informed choices on their health and safety and well being whilst at work.

All of these result in a reduction of the overall administration costs of workplace ill health and a corresponding increase in the health and well-being of staff whilst at work.

Managers and employees are required to work in partnership with Occupational Health to aim for high standards of workplace health and achieve the benefits of health improvement.
