Welcome to the Building Healthy Communities NHS website.
BHC's 'Vision' is to be a strong, dynamic partnership, which reduces health inequalities using a community development approach to promote the health and wellbeing of individuals, families, communities and organisations in Dumfries and Galloway.
Building Healthy Communities in Dumfries and Galloway is a region wide programme based on the 'Healthy Living Centre' concept and is a partnership of public, community and voluntary organisations that has been working together since 2001. The programme is designed to improve the health and wellbeing and quality of life for all individuals, particularly those who are encountering difficult circumstances and personal issues.
The programme is shaped by a Regional Partnership of strategic/local representation and four local Area Partnerhsips that currently operate across the region. Each of the Area Partnerships pool their resources and take collective action to tackle local community health issues in a co-ordinated and inclusive way which is pivotal to tackle the root causes of ill health.
