Move More Overview

We want to help you feel better when living with and beyond cancer.  At Move More Dumfries and Galloway, we will support you to become more active and help manage the consequences of treatment such as fatigue, depression and heart damage, through gentle, physical activity.
Macmillan Cancer Support, in partnership with NHS Dumfries and Galloway and Dumfries and Galloway Council, has developed a range of free classes for people affected by cancer.  From walking and gardening groups to circuits and gentle movement classes, there is something for everyone.

Move More Benefits

With this in mind these sessions are:
• Suitable at any stage of treatment
• Delivered by specially trained leaders
• Free of charge
• Available to carers, family members and friends
• Held at various locations in the community – not just the gym
• An opportunity to meet, talk and be supported by others who know what you’re going through

Move More Activites

Programme Details
Circuits Sessions are led by Dumfries and Galloway Leisure and Sport fitness instructors trained in Cancer Rehabilitation.
Gardening Gardening on a regular basis helps to significantly reduce the impact of side effects of cancer treatment and helps build strength and fitness in people affected by cancer.
Gentle Movement

Classes are led by Macmillan trained volunteer instructors who deliver a specially adapted programme to improve physical wellbeing and reduce anxiety that can be done either seated or standing.

Walking Cancer Specific Walks are only for people affected by cancer and Cancer Friendly Walks are open to any adult who wants to be more active. All walks are led by experienced volunteer walk leaders who have undergone Macmillan core training. The walks last between 45 and 60 minutes, are local and sociable providing a supportive and friendly environment
