Ward 18 (Older People)

Ward 18 is one of two wards within the hospital, which specialises in medicine for the elderly.  Both male and female patients are admitted but we do not mix male and female patients in the same room.

• The ward consists of 25 beds
• Five rooms with four beds in each
• Five single rooms
• One day room which patients and their relatives, friends and carers can use.

Our aim is to provide a safe and stimulating environment for all patients and while treating their medical condition(s) encourage them to become (within their limitations) as independent as possible.

We will endeavour to ensure that all patients and their carers are kept informed of the patient's condition and progress.  Any relatives / carers who wish to participate in the patient's care will be encouraged to do so by the ward staff.

To achieve and maintain the above, continual involvement and participation from all members of the multi-disciplinary team (doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and social work) is required.
