  • NHS QIS has now changed name to NHS HIS (Healthcare Improvement Scotland) Clinical Standards April 2010 - Prevention and Treatment of Coronary Heart Disease.  The final report has now been published and to access the documents click on the various links -
  • Scottish Patient Safety Programme : NHS Dumfries & Galloway has been involved with the Scottish Patient Safety Programme for 2 - 3 years.  Staff have attended various learning sets and been involved with PDSA cycles of change and improvement, mainly for communication and infection control.  This programme is now being expanded to include the management of heart failure patients in the acute care setting.  A heart failure care bundle has been developed and will be introduced to Dumfries & Galloway royal Infimrary's Ward 7 in mid August 2010.  An update has been submitted by the Heart Failure Nurse Service Link opens in new windowLink opens in new windowclick here to read

  • T'ai Chi : The Cardiac Rehabilitation and Heart Failure staff attended an "Introduction to T'ai Chi Day" and following from that the cardiac physiotherapist has a T'ai Chi course for Cardiac Rehabilitation "Graduates".  The programme ran every Friday afternoon and the original "students" now take it in turns to run the class.  Link opens in new windowClick here to read how one class member became involved.
  •  Gaun Yersel'  Project  : There project has now become a formal group which is called HFS Dumfries.  This group meets every Tuesday afternoon from 2pm to 3.30pm in Cluden Cardiac Unit, Crichton Hall.  Some weeks the members play board games or maybe just have a cuppa and a chat and during the summer there have been several outings to places of interest in Dumfries & Galloway.  Once a month there is an invited speaker when  a good number of the membership attends.  An example of the speakers who have come along are Dr Alistair MacKay, Consultant Cardiologist,  Senior Charge Nurse Helen Smith, Dermatology Nurse, a representative from the Shopmobility Scheme and in fact some of the group members have given talks on their hobbies.  If you are interested, please speak to your Heart Failure Nurse Specialist or indeed come along and see for yourself.
