Welcome to health improvement activities and projects in the Stewartry

Who we are?

Health Improvement team - Stewartry is part of the Primary and Community Care Directorate (West). We are a small team based at Garden Hill Primary Care Centre in Castle Douglas. We work closely with our colleagues within NHS, partners from the public, private, voluntary sectors and local communities. Our main aim is to improve the health and wellbeing of people living and working in Stewartry. The focus of our work includes;

  • Improving health
  • Reducing ill health
  • Preventing disease
  • Developing social capital
  • Tackling inequalities in health
  • Supporting individuals and communities to take control of their lives

Health Improvement Print and Electronic Materials
We have a range of health education print and electronic materials that includes: DVDs, CDs, booklets, brochures, leaflets and posters on almost all lifestyle topics i.e. diet and nutrition, (healthy eating, cooking etc), physical activity, drugs and alcohol, sexual health, and chronic disease (cancer, diabetes, heart health etc). 

Library resources
We have teaching aids and learning and development resources for groups to borrow for short period of time. These include, for example, healthy eating and drugs and alcohol resources.
